Gun restrictions

Deep analysis of what exactly the Assault Weapons Ban of 2018 (HR 5087) will do

The majority of Americans accept that a headline, meme, short title, or a summary description by one or more political commentators is all that is needed to understand a Bill or Law in our country. This is almost never accurate. Factually, increases in the number of gun restriction legislations have done nothing to improve the safety of residents of States with the most extreme laws. The Assault Weapons Ban of 2018, HR 5087, Would perhaps exponentially assure the reduction in freedom of all American citizens.

A deep look at mass shootings and gun control facts

The logic is therefore, if a firearm looks menacing it should be banned to enhance public safety. Given these actions, addressing the look of a firearm and mere possession as well as the broadest classifications of firearms and documentation of ownership, has the public become safer? No. Empirically, the only answer is no.

Is the FBI stacking the deck on gun violence and mass shooting stats?

Update – as predicted, as of this repost, there is no major news media outlet that we are aware of that have reviewed/noted or even acknowledged that statistics for mass shootings exist since 1980. Also, none of the major media questioned why the FBI presented the data with the odd timeframe, or the short-term trend figures isolated from the long-term reduction in mass shootings. Historically, the time period of the recent FBI mass shootings report indicates a reduction on a per incident and per person injured/killed basis versus the average.

Is a high capacity magazine ban useless?

We believe that actively misleading the public into a false sense of safety based on pipe dreams and wishful thinking is as dangerous as any firearm ever made. We must also clearly state that using a preposterous fallacy meant to target the fear and emotion of the public to enact a politically motivated outcome is a tactic more akin to those wishing to shackle freedom than embracing or protecting it.

How rampant are mass shootings?

Each time there is a shooting at a school attention is focused on the killers, the weapons used (especially if an assault weapon), and the youth of the victims. Each of these sad events create indelible images in the mind. But how common is it really? Mass shootings have been a sad part of the national history for more than 30 years and conclusions in search of causes may win elections, but have not made anyone better off – that is the reality and it cannot be escaped.

NRA solution as bad as gun restrictions

Both sides need to slow down the rhetoric and consider the real problem – those that are criminal or mentally unstable. While the numbers are regretable, the point is that children are safe in school by and large. Safe enough that taking time to create a reasonable and well-planned solution is prudent. We need to have a national discussion, without the obfuscation of fear, that seriously deals with what is going on – from the media to gun control to parents interacting with their kids and more.

Gun restriction legislation – does it really help?

Guns do not kill, people do. Long before the invention of guns people were killed by swords, spears, daggers, sticks and stones as well as by unarmed individuals. Action predicated by emotion usually results in legislation that is inefficient and delusional. The effort is not in creating an effective change but a change that will make the public feel better about a situation. Ultimately, enacting gun restriction legislation does one thing – creation of a delusion of safety.
