As I watch the news on the reduction in Heroin deaths, I must ask a question.
If there were only 22 overdose deaths thus far in the year, and Narcan is responsible for the saved lives, exactly how many people got the Narcan? Because if that number is 33 – or even worse more – then the underlying problem has NOT been resolved.
We need clarity on this issue. Is this just a nice spin on a problem that remains an epidemic issue, or has any inroad been made? Don’t get me wrong, saving lives is good. But if all we are doing is avoiding unpleasant headlines as the problem continues or grows, then its an illusion of success.
It’s not enough to have a happy headline.
