Postal van flipped in car accident

At about 4:15pm a Post Office van was involved in a car accident on the corner of North and Mather in Binghamton NY.

The area in which the accident took place is a residential area, and the streets were filled with children off for the Easter Holiday and enjoying the above average tempertures of the day. Though there were no injuries to the pedestrians in the area, one postal worker was transported to a nearby hospital for testing. The postal worker appeared to have minor cuts and bruises and no visible injuries, but this has not been confirmed.

Witnesses to the car accident stated that the postal worker was struck by another vehicle moving at a high rate of speed down Mather towards Main Street. The postal van, traveling along North, attempted to swerve out of the way of the oncoming car, but was struck and subsequently turned on its side from the impact.

The postal worker stated that he had been wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The driver of the other car involved also appeared to have no injuries. It is not known if he too was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Neither driver was observed to be given breathalyzers or other sobriety tests at the time, though neither driver appeared to visually require such tests.

Police officers arrived at the scene of the accident roughly 3 minutes after it occured and approximately 1 minute after being contacted by 911 by this writer. A fire engine arrived on scene within roughly 7 minutes of the accident. Medical services arrived on scene approximately 8 minutes after the accident occured.
