Transcript: Michael “Vass” Vasquez announces exploratory committee

April 23, 2013 Michael Vass 0

Now is the time for full disclosure and forthright answers. Over nearly a decade I have been actively reporting issues from the local to the international level. Often, like many of us all, I have felt the frustration as political gridlock stalled efforts. The net result is a Government that is failing the populace. Congress needs to reconnect to the public it serves. Thus it is in the spirit of one of the great American Presidents, on the anniversary of his speech praising the average American, that I am launching my exploratory committee for the 2014 NY 22nd Congressional seat.

Commentary: The difference between Government and People

March 8, 2013 Michael Vass 0

One has to wonder, did any Government official actually make a plan on what to cut if the Sequester happened? Did they even consider it as a real option, as months of debate passed without conclusion? Would you, knowing that you were about to get a pay cut 3 months in advance, ignore it until after the money was gone?

Is that all we get for $500 million?

January 18, 2013 Michael Vass 0

The only question to ask is if it is worth it? There are the seeds for some real progress on gun control, entangled in those seeds are proposals that limit gun owners and future potential owners. It can have some impact but it does not stop a Timothy McVeigh, Columbine, Binghamton American Civic Center, or even Taft High School shootings.

Response to Louis Michael Seidman NYT OpEd: A sobering vision for 2013

December 31, 2012 Michael Vass 0

Louis Michael Seidman wrote a NY Times OpEd in favor of revamping the Constitution, if not rejecting it in whole, as it is a document of “downright evil provisions”. We respond to this OpEd, and dispute the conclusions. The Constitution may be many things, flaws and all, but it is not the root of the fiscal problems in America today. To discard it, on the basis of what it has no control over nor was ever meant to, is folly for the masses and opportunism of vultures for the few that wish to remake the nation.

H.R. 4310 & H.Res. 840 – defense authorization going full steam

December 21, 2012 Michael Vass 0

Overall, the NDAA for 2013 authorizes $552 billion for national defense and another $88.5 of overseas operations. Included in these funds are an increase of 1.7% to military pay, allows for abortions in the case of rape, incest, and danger to the life of the mother (which is an expansion on current law), prohibits detainees in Guantanamo Bay from being transferred to US soil, and “Asserts that the U.S. should be prepared to take all necessary measures, including military action if required, to prevent Iran from threatening the U.S., its allies, or Iran’s neighbors with a nuclear weapon…”
