On March 14, 2019, without much fanfare from the mainstream media, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez questioned the Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. This House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing was addressing, in part, the issue of a question of citizenship being added to the Census.
What did AOC say?
During the questions, and accusations, lobbed by AOC (as Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is commonly referred by on social media) a concern for constituents was raised. To be clear, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez alleged that her constituents included illegal aliens. She said, (emphasis added)
“Mr. [Kris] Kobach later sent an email to you on July 14th. Writing that the lack of the citizenship question,
“…leads to the problem that aliens who do not actually reside in the US are still counted for congressional apportionment services.”
Of course they do reside in the US. They reside in my District. They’re my constituents.“
What is a constituent
Now this raises 2 questions. The first is what is a constituent? AOC statement seems to define it as any person, regardless of legal status, that resides in a congressional district. But is that correct?
The definition of constituent according to Merriam Webster is: A member of a constituency; one who authorizes another to act as agent. This then demands to clarify what is a constituency: A body of citizens entitled to elect a representative. Therefore, an alien residing in a congressional district, without authorization and thus not under the authority of the US, is NOT a constituent. They cannot vote – even in New York State – at least unless Democrats can pass and enforce the changes to election law they have proposed.
The second question comes is derived from the first. Who does Rep. Ocasio-Cortez actually represent in Congress? It’s not a minor issue.
What is an undocumented migrant?
In this same congressional hearing, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez would go on to describe the illegal aliens as “migrants”. This refers to a common terminology used by the Far Left of undocumented migrants or undocumented workers. Such phrasing seeks to minimize the acknowledgement of active violation of the law. We addressed this in-depth in the politcally bygone days of 2010.
“Let’s say every nation is a house. The borders are streets. Easy example to envision. So the United States is a house and across the street to the north is a house called Canada, across the street to the south is a house called Mexico, across a lake a house called England, and so on.
…Some people (for whatever reason) break into houses. Some are burglars, some are addicts, and some are just homeless. But they all commit breaking and entering. Most of those that do this also break into the refrigerator of the house and steal food, find the wallet of the owner of the house and steal money, use the phone and cable, even sleep in the homeowners bed. Most also scurry off and hide when the homeowner looks for them. Some attack the owner.
…But why use the term “undocumented worker” instead of criminal or illegal alien – which are far more accurate.
Because no one would want to reward a criminal for active participation in a crime. If you carry drugs from Houston to Boston and get caught you go to jail for a crime. If you carry drugs from London to Daytona you go to jail for a crime. If you carry drugs from Mexico City to Los Angeles, and you are an “undocumented worker”, you are a victim (not a criminal) and therefore should be rewarded for your crimes.”
Representing illegal aliens
But AOC is willing to reward illegal aliens. Both by removing the ability of the Government to identify and prosecute these criminal acts and in facilitating an open and porous border. It’s part and parcel to her statements about ‘native Latinos’ and defunding ICE. As she said in February 2019,
“Because we are standing on native land, and Latino people are descendants of native people. And we cannot be told and criminalized simply for our identity or our status. Period.”
So, if AOC represents illegal aliens, and has championed their reward, citizens lose. American citizens are given the burden paying for those that willfully violate the laws of the nation. Citizens lose the security that is the essential and primary purpose of Government. Citizens lose the standard of law that equalizes all under the authority of the Unites States; and prevents the anarchy from individuals picking and choosing which laws they desire to abide.
Oath of Office violation
If Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez believes as she has stated, then she is in violation of her Oath of Office. Her personal standards violate,
“I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;”
Open borders, selective enforcement of laws, decreasing the security of the nation, all things that AOC has supported. None of which can be called supporting the Constitution. Nor can it be said to be in faith or allegiance. In fact it can be postulated that these are acts in opposition – which could be said is the point of Democrat Socialism.
But speculation aside, one thing is quite clear. Illegal aliens are not constituents. Not in New York. Not even in the 14th Congressional District of New York.
