Political ads parody television commercials

By Michael Vass | June 19, 2012

There is an old saying in Russia I was once told

“If its good, they don’t need to advertise”

Obviously not the feeling in America, certainly not if you want to be (re-)elected for political office. Television ads and internet videos are now a requirement, as vital as shaking the baby and kissing hands (the other way around for everyone except VP Biden).

Sometimes the political ads are dead on the mark, other times they fail miserably. But to up the chance of success, like Hollywood movies, imitation of something already successful is a surefire way to get attention. Besides, its not like political ads are trying to be original – they just want you to buy their candidate long enough to vote for them (or at least not vote for the opponent).

Here is a recent parody that struck a cord – playing off the highly successful Dos Equis ads

Of course one of the best was from the Obama election team in 2008

Of course if you like that, don’t fret. More political ads are on the way this summer, and there is sure to be a blockbuster in there – no matter who you are rooting for.

Just remeber what I was told in Russia, they have to advertise.
