The morning start in Binghamton NY may have been a bit slower for those traveling down Main Street today. The distraction of billowing black smoke, and the sounds of 2 fire trucks at work are the easiest way to create a rubbernecking event. Luckily this was not a taste of morbid curiosity, just bad driving habits.
Behind the house at 119 Murray Street, in the 1 story brick garage, a fire broke out at about 8am. Many in the area intially that the fire was located in the back of one of the houses on Chapin Street. Or that the CVS at the corner of Chapin and Main was being engulfed in flame. Considering the location of the garage, which is directly behind the CVS and close to houses the fact that it did not spread was attributable to the quick response of the Binghamton Fire Dept. and the lack of winds that were whipping through the area just yesterday.
There were no reports of any loss of life or injuries as of 8:44am, with the fire significantly contained. Equally, the investigation into the cause of the fire is unknown at this time as well.
