The Obama Administration and Arizona Immigration law

By Michael Vass | May 18, 2010

What is wrong with the Obama Administration? It’s a question that needs to be asked. I just watched PJ Crowley (approx. 10:10am EST), speaking in defense of Michael Posner, and I am befuddled.

For those that are not clear on the details. Michael Posner, the Asst. Secretary of State, detailed how he brought up the Arizona Immigration Law when discussing human rights violations with China yesterday. China – the nation that stomps down protests with tanks, imprisons perhaps tens of millions because they believe in religion or disagree with the government, and implies they will go to war if the word “Taiwan” is spoken in connection with the word “Nation”. What does the Arizona law have to do with human rights? Nothing. Why did America mention it to the Chinese? From the way Posner described it, we were apologizing for our internal, peaceful, national debate.

[By the way, are you aware what the penalty for being in China illegally is? How about illegally entering Mexico? Europe?]

So America apologized to China, because that is what the Obama Administration does. When PJ Crowley was speaking this morning about what was said, putting his best polispeak spin on Posner’s words, he mentioned something I though was absurd. Like Eric Holder and Janet Napalitano, PJ Crowley also admitted that he had no clue what is in the Arizona Immigration Law – because he has never read it. Yet that did not stop him from equating racial profiling in the Arizona law as being a human rights violation. Except that the the law clearly states, in article 2 of the law, that racial profiling is explicity not allowed. PJ Crowley might have noticed that if he read the law.

Suddenly it becomes clear.

The Obama Stimulus was passed in days without being read. The Health Care Reform (Obamacare) was passed without reading the numerous variants of the Bill (as Speaker Nancy Pelosi admitted – “We need to pass the law to see what’s in the law.”). Each was hundreds of pages long, in fact the Obamacare was over 2000 pages long. The Arizona Immigration Law is 10 pages long. IF the Obama Administration can’t be bothered, or is incapable, of reading 10 pages how in the world might we expect them to read 100 or 2000 pages of law?

Better yet, the Constitution is 6 pages long. What is the chance that the Obama Administration has not read all 6 pages? What is the likelyhood that the Obama Administration is waiting for MSNBC to cover the Constitution and Bill of Rights so they have an idea of whats there? Sound absurd? So does the statement that apparently there isn’t a senior member of the Administration that has read the Arizona Immigration Law to date. Yet apparently that is factual. So the question about the Constitution is fairgame (if anyone in the media has the balls to ask).
