Rep. Weiner goes after Glenn Beck. But why?
So let’s say that you watch televison commentary programs. That might be Glenn Beck, or Chris Matthews, or Bill O’Reilly. An ad comes on, one that is topical. Say a commercial to donate to some organization, or a political ad. If the commentator had spoken about the cause the televsion commercial addressed, is that unfair to the viewer? Rep. Anthony Weiner seems to think so.
Actually, Rep. Weiner thinks that Glenn Beck and Goldline are the specific proplem. And just them.
Rep. Weiner has singled out Glenn Beck as a television and radio commentator with a deceptive cause. That Beck is working to get the public to buy gold from Goldline at unfair prices. Other conservatives are on the radar of the congressman as well, but not other companies. And not one liberal personality at all.
Does this sound like a political action? A form of censorship?
Consider this, Beck (who was singled out by the Congressman) is a very popular voice for conservative views. His program has found information that has led to several Obama Administration figureheads to resign (normally in the middle of the night, over a weekend, often during a holiday). Beck has constantly been attacked from liberal organizations, especially those like the George Soros funded Media Matters. Beck is perhaps the least loved political commentator the White House addresses by name, often.
As the mid-term elections approach, and Rep. Weiner seeks re-election, how might Weiner secure his elected office? What might attract votes from constituents that support his far-left voting record?
Attacking Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck certainly gains free press. It also gains the support of liberal organizations that oppose conservative views, like Media Matters and ACORN. Plus it looks like an action made to the benefit of the public. All are savvy moves for a politician seeking re-election.
But if this were truly just about protecting the public, why has Weiner waited so long? Glenn Beck has been on air (including radio) for years. Goldline has been a sponsor for quite some time. Goldline has an A+ rating with Better Business Bureau. No other gold coin companies were mentioned. No other spokespeople are being attacked like Beck is.
Could this be a distraction tactic to keep voters from listening to Beck? Could Rep. Weiner be offsetting his voting record which helped to pass the Obama Stimulus that has yet to achieve any of its major provisions? Could Rep. Weiner be trying to obfuscate his vote in favor of the Health Care Reform that has already been proven to not create any savings at any point over the next 10 years? Could Weiner be trying to justify why voters should re-elect him to office?
Rep. Weiner says this isn’t political. That he is seeking to protect the public. Yet his concern for the public allowed him to pass the Health Care Reform that will increase the deficit and slow job creation, besides being unpopular with the public. His concerns also seemed to fall short of the Stimulus, and helped cause the loss of food stamps to thousands of families because of the haste with which the Bill was passed.
Is this political? The constituents of Rep. Weiner will ultimately decide. But until then, all that can be said is it sure looks like an attempt to censor a voice that the White House and liberals don’t want to be heard.
