The 2nd Stimulus the Democrats will never approve
In perhaps the best argument I have heard in quite some time, a second Obama Stimulus has been proposed. But unlike the unread, 4000 page, wasteful, ineffective, unstimulating Bill passed early this year, this idea does not come from a politician nor does it address anything but jobs. Who knew a stimulus plan could do that? Not Pelosi, Reid, Democrats or President Obama for sure.
Suggested by Kevin O’Leary, this plan harkens back to the last time things were severely screwed up in the nation, The Great Depression. You may recall having heard about that time. President Obama promised that his Stimulus package of $787 billion would prevent the nation from a time so dire. And since then we have gotten worse with projections of the worst to come.
But O’Leary has struck on a great idea. Create a stimulus package that creates jobs. Can you imagine that. And not only create a job, like say for 35 hours as has been done, but make sure they exist for a year or 2. Stunning logic there. No wonder no elected official in the Presidency, or the Democrat swollen Congress thought of creating jobs.
Yes, the old program was known as the WPA – Works Progress Administration. It gave people jobs back then like cleaning parks, building roads, fixing public buildings, creating sewers and tons of other infrastructure (the stuff that is falling apart now).
I know. The problem is it will cost way too much to do it. Economist Heidi Shierholz of the Economic Policy Institute pegged the cost at $200 billion to employ 4 million people and pay them between $40,000 and $50,000 for up to 2 years. And since every dollar used by the Government must come from taxes somewhere at sometime, such a plan means someone will be screwed.
But wait. Haven’t we already spent $787 billion dollars? We already have screwed our kids and possibly grandkids. Plus, some $500 billion is sitting around unused for the next year and a half or so. Why not forget about the social engineering, skate parks, and non-existent homeless problems (each are real projects where the stimulus is being used right now) that we have yet to pay for, and use the extra money to cut the unemployment rate by 2/3 or so. We could even take the extra $300 billion dollars and, … I don’t know, pay down the national debt? Maybe give every small business (which employs 70% of the nation) a loan of some $5,000. Maybe even give the money back to every taxpayer in America – roughly something like $1000 each.
We can’t do that of course. It would mean that people and not the Government would be making decisions about money. That wouldn’t be a good idea since the Average American can balance their checkbooks and the Government hasn’t done that in 40 years at least. Besides, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Harry Reid have such wonderful plans with our money.
Don’t worry, Democrats want to guarantee their re-elections in the 2010 mid-term elections. Which means that the rumors of a 2nd Obama Stimulus will happen. Count on it being around another $500 billion dollars by the time its all said and done. Though that will be new money, but who is counting.
They will make sure that this next time around everybody (and I’m including illegal aliens – or undocumented workers if you prefer) will get a check in the mail. And then they will waste no time in reminding everyone that they gave you just enough money to cover your mortgage for 1 more month, while you still don’t have a job. Because that will get you to vote for them. Not that Democrats would stoop so low as to buy votes. They like to just make campaign promises that never happen (like the 73% of promises that President Obama has completely ignored to date).
Is the plan mentioned by O’Leary perfect? Not at all. But then again the Obama Stimulus has lost more jobs than what President Obama said would be lost if we did noting at all (and now he says that even more will be lost – but the recession is over!). That’s change you can believe since it’s a fact.
By the way, who do you think you should elect in 2010? Just wondering.
